Science Experiment

Title - Gummy Worm Experiment
Purpose: What do you want to learn/find out?
I want to find out why and how the worm juice actually forms into the gummy worms.


Hypothesis: Try to predict the answer to the problem. Another term for hypothesis is ‘educated guess’. This is usually stated like ” If I…(do something) then…(this will occur)
I thought that the liquids would just sit on top of each other and they would barely have contact.

Materials: List everything you will need to conduct your experiment.
Small Eco Cup
Large Eco cup
Solution
Sodium Alginate originated from seaweed(Worm Juice) Red, Blue and Yellow.
Pipettes
Worm Activator
Calcium Chloride


Experiment procedure: The fun part! Design a test or procedure to confirm or disprove your hypothesis. Write down each step so that someone else could do the same experiment.
Step 1: Put Calcium Chloride in water then mix until all is dissolved

Step 2: When the water is ready you can pour or use your pipette to grab any color of worm Juice and watch the scientific magic happen

Step 3: Play with the non-edible gummy worms


Analysis/Data: Record what happened during the experiment.
The Sodium Alginate (Worm Juice) mixed with the water that had Calcium Chloride and then the Sodium Alginate would not only dye the water but also create non edible Gummy Worms.


Conclusion:Review the data and check to see if your hypothesis was correct.
My thought of the ending result was wrong, the outcome was a lot different than I thought it was going to be. I expected the two liquids to barely touch, I guess I might’ve had a better Idea of what it was gonna end like If I actually used the title of the experiment.

This Year's Reflection

I felt like my first year in intermediate was  amazing, i definitely enjoyed my first year ever in intermediate. 2015, So far i’m enjoying the life of a senior, there are many good things about being a senior.

One thing I found very satisfying this year was all the trips we went on and how many activities we did. We did activities like friday sports, and trips like Rainbows end and Polyfest and soon Parakai.
The difficult parts in this year we're moving to more work and more difficult work. I also found work extra hard from Extension, Maths and Reading & Writing. I feel like this year I maybe could’ve done more work then I have done.
I’ve enjoyed the new teachers and the ways they teach and the way they talk to us.I think that the teachers are doing good for teaching us a lot of new things.

This year has been super fun, busy, challenging and cool. I want to be able to look forward to next year as I will be a year 8.

Overall I had a really fun year, did new things and accomplished new achievements. 2015 Was an amazing year in my opinion, and I thank all the teachers for teaching me.

Extension Reflection

This year, 2015 was my first year of being in extension and it was exciting. In my first year there was a new teacher, Mrs Lagitupu.

In extension we went on trips like Tiritiri matangi Island, Maritime Museum and the G.E.G NZ Summit, all amazing places. I learnt heaps of things while I was in my first year of extension, i'm definitely looking forward to next year.

We went to Tiritiri Matangi Island to learn about the endangered birds, and how or if we could help them. And also to take a look at the beautiful Island. This place was by far my favourite, we learnt heaps of different birds and saw heaps of different amazing views and did cool challenges.

Google Expedition

Today we had the opportunity to try the Google cardboard. We were using it to see around the world and we saw some famous buildings, Sharks and even stars.

The first thing we did on those cool gadgets were we were in a crater with a cave and we were with Sir David Attenborough, If you didn't know who David Attenborough is then he is a famous narrator of documentaries and a scientist. as you moved your head it moved in the phone.



They set us challenges to try and find things like a Python and a Mantis. We visited many places including Mt Fuji, Borneo Forest, In the ocean, Dubai, Burj Khalifa 43 floor and 120 I think, some kids were even screaming from the height.  In the ocean we could see heaps of bull sharks and some people, bull sharks are supposed to be the most vicious sharks.

We also went to space we could see the moon, heaps of stars and even a continent on earth. We were asked who could name the country, It was Africa. It was so cool in space and all the places.

The Google cardboard was an amazing gadget as it felt like I was actually in a different dimension and actually in the places. We were able to see heaps of cool things and I’d like to use it again. It would be cool if we could use it for learning somehow and just have some for fun.
